STAKES RITES TO BE HELD HERE AT BAPTIST CHURCH
Ed Stakes, well known in Crowley and a resident here for years, died at the Lafayette hospital Friday night just before midnight. Funeral services will be conducted from the First Baptist church of this city, at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. H.J. McCool, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery at Indian Bayou.
Ed Stakes was perhaps one of the best known men about town in Crowley, having lived here a large portion of his life and yet but little is known of his family connections and who survive him. He has been employed by the city for many years at various times. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stakes of this city. He was married at one time but became estranged from his wife who now lives some place in Texas and has a son that so far has not been located. Of his known relatives he has four brothers, Raymond Stakes of Port Arthur; Bill Stakes of Crowley; Arthur Stakes of Crowley; Maurice Stakes, residence unknown, and Walter Stakes of Kaplan. There are also three sisters; Mrs Lop Spell of Crowley; Mrs Daley of Indian Bayou and on sister whose name could not be learned.
He has been at times an assistant at the Crowley fire station and while not a regular member of the department has served when needed in any capacity. He suffered a stroke several months ago with a recurrence later and the third stroke attacked him late last week, when hw was taken to Lafayette where he died during the last hours of Friday.
Geesey-Ferguson of Crowley have charge of all arrangements.
