      More about Ron…
Ron Bujold was a proud Acadian. He was one of eleven siblings. During the war the family moved to St. John where Ron went to school, learned English and led a gang of boys. After the war the family returned to Gaspé to a land claim. Ron helped his father clear the land and designed the buildings that they built. There was no local school which meant Ron diligently took correspondence courses. When he reached an age to join the army, he did, and was sent to a faraway place – Chilliwack, British Columbia. This posting was followed by Germany where he discovered the wonders of Europe including a motorcycle trip to Paris and London. Ron’s talents for organizing information and language were recognized by the army and brought him the opportunity of Russian language training in Ottawa. Thus began his career as a spy. First some time at Alert Bay, followed by time in Washington and then back to Ottawa with the Canadian Security Establishment collecting signals intelligence. All was very secret, and few tales were told.
Following his independent, creative nature, he left his civil service career and began a career as a contractor and builder. He designed, engineered, and supervised many innovative home improvement projects in the Ottawa area. Ron created livable spaces. Energy efficiency and respect for the context of the neighbourhood and history
were his priorities. Two pet projects were a building on Bank St. and a cottage at Lac Simon. The building on Bank St. provided suitable space for several long-standing Glebe businesses including – Irene’s Pub, Ernesto’s Barber Shop, McCrank’s Bicycle Repair and a band practice space. Throughout the thirty plus years he owned this building he continued to make innovative improvements. Ron’s adventure building a Lac Simon cottage began without the advantage of electricity and a road. So many good times have been had by so many people within this structure. Ron took the best advantage of the magical location on Ward Bay.
Ron was a mentor to many people both in life and building. He loved to explore ideas, politics, and history in heated conversations. He shared many « belles histoires ». He gave a lot of good. He will be missed.
