- Felixine Floretta Bijeau (Phyl)
January 12, 1929 - November 14, 2019
Felixine "Phyl" Bijeau, 90, passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 14, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Phyl was born and raised in St. Leonard, NB, Canada, where she graduated from the Hotel Dieu nursing program.
As a military bride she worked in various hospitals across the northeast, settling in the Plattsburgh area in 1958. Phyl was an RN at CVPH for 17 years where her friendly, outgoing nature made her a favorite of patients, families, and co-workers alike. It was very common for her to be approached in public with stories that began 'you took care of me when' or 'my wife/husband was a patient in.' She retired from CVPH in 1985 due to health issues, but kept busy in her community. She served meals through the Clinton County Office for the Aging Nutrition Program for the Elderly at their facility on Margaret Street for several years, then at Beekman Towers where she resided from 1998 thru 2015.
In her final years she was a resident in memory care at Meadowbrook where the staff got a crash course in French Canadian as her illness progressed and she reverted to her New Brunswick roots.
The family will be eternally grateful for their patience, kindness, loving care, and willingness to carry on conversations at a decibel level that could be heard from space.
Phyl is survived by her six children - Patricia (Jan) Marcinkowski of Ballston Lake, Ronald (Anne) Bijeau of Wiesbaden, Germany, Theresa Bijeau of Spartanburg, S.C., Leonard Bijeau of Orlando, Fla., and Philip (Bonnie) Bijeau and Daniel Bijeau of Plattsburgh, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her brother Robert LaPointe and sister Christine Moreau of NB.
Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to attend a Mass of Intention at St. Peter's Church on Saturday, November 23, at 4 p.m. with the family, or at the 8, 9:30, or 11 a.m. Masses on Sunday, November 24. Funeral services and burial will be held in Canada at a later date.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY at 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205, http://alz.org/northeasternny
