  	LAVERY _ Greta, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Willow Chest Pavilion, VGH, after a short illness. She was born Marie Ida Gracieuse (later changed to "Greta") in the town of Maria on the Gaspe coast on January 24, 1917, one of 14 children born to Elizabeth (Poirier) and Ernest Bujold. She is survived by her sisters: Hilda, Nora, Edna, and Mabel, and by her brother Guy; and is redeceased by her other siblings: Edgar, Edith. Armand, Raoul, Effie, Maurice, Gaetan, and Arnold. Greta came to Vancouver as a young woman, married Harley Lavery in 1941, and was widowed in 1957. Greta never learned to drive, but she enjoyed travelling everywhere by public transit, and became easily recognized, and quite notorious, for her style of never leaving her home without a hat and gloves. She worked in the hospitality industry all of her life, beginning in the Commodore Club, then various other downtown hotels, and finally for the better part of her working career, she served the patrons of the Vancouver Club on West Hastings as the banquets supervisor. She retired from there in the early 90's, but often returned for special occasions, as she was highly regarded by the Club's staff and members. Greta was a hard worker, punctual to a fault and quite fastidious about her appearance, and in all family gatherings, the first to help with the tidying up. Here in Vancouver Greta will be sadly missed by her BC cousins and their families: Elsie Cameron, Cecil Dion (Anne), Zilda Kelly (Charlie) and Dorothy Giovando (Larry); along with the families of her cousins that predeceased her: Lomer Dion (Rita), Lucille and husband John Busch and Myrta Treacher (Howard). She was "Auntie Greta" for over half a century to the extended family of her western cousins, the English speaking branch of her large French Canadian family, with its roots in the Gaspe. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 646 Richards St, on Wednesday, March 23 at 10 a.m., with her cousin, Fr. Glenn Dion as celebrant. Greta was a faithful parishioner of the Cathedral parish for over 50 years, and regularly attended the daily noon Mass. Burial will follow at Ocean View Burial Park. In lieu of flowers a donation to the BC Children's would be appreciated. Published in the Vancouver Sun and The Province on 3/22/2005.
