4803 Odelie Marie Bergeron (16 Aug 1827-abt 1892) was born in St-Louis-de-Lotbiniere, Quebec, Canada to parents Antoine Bergeron (1787-1863) and Marie Marguerite Lemay dite Poudrier (1796-1878). Odile was baptized the next day, 17 Aug 1827.

Odelie wed Prudent Joseph Blais-Blair (9 Nov 1825-4 Jan 1916) on 22 Apr 1850 in St-Louis-de-Lotbiniere. Prudent was listed on the wedding registration as a “navigateur” (ship navigator). He was born in St-Louis-de-Lotbiniere.

In 1865, Prudent and Odelie and their five children (Louis, David, Andrew, Napoleon and Lumina and her husband Telesphore Picotte) moved to the Chippewa Falls area to settle. They as well as other family and friends from the Lotbiniere area were among the first pioneers to settle in Chippewa County.

In the US 1885 Census of Chippewa Falls, it lists Prudent as running a boarding house. This was most likely for the men working in the lumber mills in that area.

Odelie died in 1892 according to her gravestone. Prudent was listed in the US 1900 Census for Chippewa Falls as “widower"and living with eldest daughter, Alphonsina (Blais-Blair) Meinen and her husband, William Meinen and family. Prudent was 78 years old at that time.

In 1911, Prudent applied for a homestead for his son, Louis P. in Kilwinning, Saskatchewan, Canada NE Section 12, Township 47, Range 5, West of the 3rd Meridian (2127929).

Sometime before 1915, Prudent went back to Chippewa Falls. On 4 Jan 1916, he died in Chippewa Falls at age 90 of “apoplexy” (a venerable term for a stroke or cerebrovascular accident).

Odelie is buried in the Hope Roman Catholic Cemetery in Chippewa Falls, and most likely Prudent is as well.

4833 on the 9 jan 1846 at her wedding, she is listed as a Spanish/Creole Ethnicity. MARTINEZ, Caroline (Maria Carolina) (I10779)

4834 On the evening of April 8, 2022, after a brief illness, at the age of 87, God called on our mother. While our hearts were broken when she suddenly left us, we found comfort in the wonderful memories of the lessons she gave, the life she shared, and the love she showed.

Mom was born and raised in Coniston, married John Herman (predeceased 1998). Their lives were filled with many wonderful times with family, good friends, and loved ones always around. Mom especially enjoyed spending time with dad and our families camping and fishing for pickerel in Sturgeon Falls. It was our family gathering place for many years. Our children and grandchildren always enjoyed visiting their Baba. She always had a story to share and something special for them.

Mom had a successful 40-year career at the CIBC and retired in 1998. In her retirement, she loved to help others and was recognized many times for outstanding services as a volunteer in both the Coniston and Sudbury communities. In 2006, she married Gregory Beaton (predeceased in 2008). They enjoyed a few wonderful years of companionship, traveling and attending many senior events.

Mom was proud to be a founding member of the Coniston Seniors & Golden Age Club, where she served as President for 20 years. She was also a 50-year member of the St. Paul's Catholic Women's League.

We cherish the memories shared with our mother, and though we can no longer have her in our lives, she will always be in our hearts.

We thank the EMS teams and Health Sciences North emergency doctors, staff and volunteers for their compassionate care of our mother during her brief stay.

Caroline is survived by, and will be sadly missed by her daughters Janet, Cindy and Margaret, son-in-law William, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, their families and friends.

Funeral and interment services will be private. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be sent to Maison McCulloch Hospice, 1028 South Bay Road, Sudbury, Ontario. https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/donate/

Arrangements have been entrusted with Ranger's Cremation and Burial Services Ltd. Online condolences can be posted at www.RangersSudbury.com

4838 Once deported to Massachusetts (1755) along with his wife and children, two of Claude's daughters, ages 23 and 17, received public aid as indigents. The Amesbury Selectmen found employment and subsistance for them; Claude said they were his children and were to remain in his house at work which he supplied. The Selectmen arrived with witnesses and assistants; although Claude offered resistance, the Selectmen brought the daughters to the prospective home were they were to work (endentured). Claude brought the daughters back to his house. The Selectmen cut down on what they were giving the family, so Claude petitioned. Other families were not so fortunate in that when their children were endentured, sometimes their "owners" would move them to one of their other homes so that their fathers could not find time. We must remember that some families were never reunited again.

Claude BOURGEOIS' wife was Marie LEBLANC daughter of Pierre and Madeleine BOURG. Claude secured special protection against the Amesbury Selectmen

The petition to the council reads as follows:

To the Honorable His Majesty's Council of the Province of Massachusetts Bay. May it Please your Honours.

Claude BOURGEOIS, your Petitioner, one of the late French inhabitants of Nova Scotia, was sent with his family to Amesbury by order of the General Court, where he has resided constantly with his wife and his children; and begs leave to represent to your Honours, that about four weeks ago then twelve men came and took away from him two of his daughters, one of the age of 25 years and the other of 18, that his daughters were at that time employed in spinning for the Family, the poor remains of the Flax of wool which they had saved from Annapolis. Your Petitioner having fetched his Daughters home again, the Town have withheld their subsistence so that fourteen Days past he has received nothing at all to prevent them from starving, and the owner of the house where he lives threatens that he shall pay the rent of it by his children's labour. Your petitioner prays your Honours to relieve him under these circumstances, and your Petitioners shall ever pray, etc.

The mark of + Claude BOURGEOIS

4840 one of the pioneer settlers of the area; Auguste's mother was Marie Cantrelle, daughter of one of the founders of the St.-Jacques settlement, the redoubtable Jacques Cantrelle, for whom the community was named.

Cabahannocer/St.-Jacques

The area that is now St. James Parish was the abode of various Indian tribes during the early 1700s, some of them hostile to the French. The first attempt by the French to settle the area, in the early 1720s during the John Law period, was a failure. During the 1740s, a trading venture existed among the Houma, who resided in the area at the time. In the 1750s, Mathias Frederick moved upriver from the German Coast into the St. James area. There were other scattered inhabitants along the river there when Jacques Cantrelle and his sons-in-law, Nicolas Verret and Louis Judice, secured land grants from the French authorities still running the colony in the early 1760s.

Cantrelle was in his 60s by then and had a long history in the colony. The son of Claude Cantrelle and Marguerite Eurguin or Turpin of St.-Léger, Picardy, France, Jacques and his wife, Théressé Marquant, had come to Louisiana aboard Le Profond out of La Rochelle in 1720, having agreed to live on one of the concessions the French had granted to the Scottish entrepreneur, John Law.

In 1723, Jacques, his wife, and their son Jean were counted at Sotehouy (Arkansas), a John Law concession far above New Orleans.

In January 1726, Jacques and his family had returned to New Orleans, where they lived on Orleans Street.

In the late 1720s, they moved to another John Law concession, Fort Rosalie, Natchez, at the site of the city that still bears the name.

In November 1729, the Natchez Indians turned on the settlement and massacred all but 20 Frenchmen. Cantrelle was one of the lucky survivors; his wife Thérèssé, who was the local mid-wife, was not so lucky.

Jacques hurried back to New Orleans, secured a loan, and resettled at Cannes Brûlé, now Kenner, just upriver from New Orleans.

Meanwhile, in April 1730, he remarried to Marie-Marguerite Larmusiau (also spelled Larmurian), whose husband had fallen at Natchez. Cantrelle also maintained a residence in New Orleans.

The story goes that in July 1763, with old age catching up to him, the violence in the city compelled him to find a quiet place farther upriver in the forest primeval. He and his sons-in-law had secured large land grants on the upper German Coast along the west bank of the river. Cantrelle named his plantation Cabahannocer, Choctaw for "mallard's roost" and the name of a small bayou nearby.

The name has various appellations other than Cabahannocer (favored by White), including Cabahan-noces (from the census of January 1777), Cabannocé (favored by Brasseaux), Cabanocé, Cabanocey (favored by Bourgeois and De Ville), Cabanosse, Cabonnous, Kaba-anoce, Kabahannosse.

Oscar Bujold December 19, 1927 – April 11, 2015

Publié le: 31 décembre, 2015

Oscar Bujold has proven himself to be a man of courage and strength. He loved deeply and his children and grandchildren are benefactors of this.

He was born in the northern town of Smooth Rock Falls, Haggart Township, December 19, 1927, to the proud parents Gerald and Alma Bujold.

He was the 6th born of 11 children. His siblings include: Mrs. Blondine Louise Goulet of Cochrane The Late Mrs. Antoinette Rochleau of Smooth Rock Falls The Late Mr. Leo Bujold of Smooth Rock Falls Mr. Lucien Bujold of Halleybury The Late Camille Bujold of Oak Ridges Mrs. Geraldine McAlpine of Niagara Falls Mr. Roger Bujold of Val Rita Mr. Claremont Bujold of Newmarket Mrs. Florence Rochelea of Strickland Mr. Yvon Bujold of Brampton

When he left home at about 15 years old to work in Toronto, he never forgot his family. He would often send money to his mother and consideration for his siblings one of them still only 2 years old at the time.

In 1966 Oscar and Marie had their daughter Dawn and in 1968 their son Ken. He was very proud to see his daughter married to Mr. Tony Da Graca and has been blessed with three of his grandchildren from this union: Christina, Althea and Nehemiah.

Likewise, his son Ken Bujold was blessed with four of his grandchildren: Quade and Madison with their mother Heather; and Robin and Victoria with their mother Amanda.

He was a great provider, enjoyed fishing, loved working with his hands and professionally was a 1st class fitter for over 25 years.

He had a great love for children and was always making things for them, such as, wooden desks, or rebuilding bicycles. He was considerate to think of others with gifting no matter how big or how small. He consistently had his hand out…to give. He loved to laugh and be jovial. He enjoyed the simple things in life and would take time to smell the roses with you and connect with you in your situation.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Oscar Bujold December 19, 1927 – April 11, 2015
BUJOLD, Oscar (I9358)
